Food distribution in New Orleans
A sad sign of the times: When the word went out that food would be available May 1 on St. Mary of the Angels property in New Orleans, cars began lining up three hours in advance. During the Free Food Pantry Distribution for families in the Upper Ninth Ward, coordinated by New Orleans City Council Member Jared Brossett in partnership with Second Harvest, the NOLA Tree Project, NOLA Police Dept. and SMA Parish, 200 food baskets were distributed. “There was also a separate line for walk-ups to receive their baskets,” says Pastor Joe Hund. Joe’s job? “To pray for good weather, which the Lord provided with a sunny 70 degrees. All of the sorting and preparing and lifting of boxes were done by city volunteers.” The event was so successful it was repeated on May 15 and will be again on May 29.
