Anthony, A Name For Miracles

Anthony, A Name For Miracles

What's in a name?  For those named for St. Anthony of Padua, it can be miraculous.

Fr. Anthony (Tony) Walter, OFM

Born in 1932, Fr. Anthony (Tony) Walter, OFM, was named in honor of St. Anthony of Padua. How about you?  Our Face Book followers shared their stories about the name Anthony and the miracles of St. Anthony.

“My son is autistic and I have given him in the hands of St Anthony of Padua and he has been my son's savior.” - Kermani

“I went to St. Anthony grade school and high school and was married at St. Anthony Catholic Church. My son is Anthony Charles and he has been blessed because of prayers to St. Anthony and of course The Miraculous Medal the Mother of God presented to me when he was born.” – Susan

“I could not have children so my husband and I decided to adopt.  We hadn’t talked about if we wanted to adopt a boy or a girl so we were deciding on names for both.   My husband picked a boy name and I picked a girl. One night St. Anthony came to me in a dream and said i was going to adopt a little boy and name him Anthony. So today we have a beautiful 6 year old son named Anthony Julien.  I pray to St. Anthony all the time.” - Annmarie

“I was 6 years old when I was sent to live in a convent called Blessed Sacrament Academy. I had this cute little baby doll and somehow I lost her. Sister Birdgett told me to pray to St. Anthony for him to return my doll. I cannot remember how long it took to get her back but I did. Sister told me to be sure and thank St. Anthony for getting my doll back to me. Her clothes were gone but she was fine. Ever since I have prayed to St. Anthony and suggested that others do the same; even non-Catholics have items returned after saying a prayer to him. I always tell them to be sure and thank him and they do. I named my son, Aaron Anthony, but I named him after the priest in our Parish that I had known since I was in 3rd grade. I have a St. Anthony candle and I light it just to give thanks not just to ask for something. He is my Patron Saint.” - Gayle

“I was pregnant with my son but didn't know it. I believed I had had a miscarriage but discovered I was pregnant. It became a high risk pregnancy. He was born 6 weeks premature with respiratory distress syndrome. Thank God today he is a thriving 21 year old. I prayed to St. Anthony throughout my pregnancy for him and named my son for him. I was blessed to have been able to visit Padua in 2006 and go to the church where his remains are laid.” – Donna
